Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune 18 Lunes, 2018, Domaine Devevey
Region: Nantoux, Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, Burgundy
Production: Organic certified, biodynamic practising, hand harvested, low sulphur
From the lieu-dit Les Chagnots in Nantoux. The vines were planted in 1992 at the bottom of Champs Perdrix. Here the slope is more pronounced and affords generous sunshine (often beneficial in the Hautes Côtes) The soil here is quite stony – a totally different terroir to Champs Perdrix located just above.
It spends 18 months minimum in barrel, including 12 on lees, hence the mention 18 moons. The wine is rich and complex with notes of honey, smoke, wet stone and apricot. A generous palate underpinned with vibrant acidity, with almost a touch of tannin. This reminds me of a Chassagne-Montrachet, which Jean-Yves told me is something he hears often.
