Côte de Brouilly Les 7 Vignes 2019, Château Thivin
Region: Côte de Brouilly, Beaujolais
Production: Organic in conversion, hand harvested, natural yeasts
From seven plots of Côte de Brouilly on the east, south, and west flanks of Mont Brouilly: Clos Bertrand, La Chapelle, Les Griottes, Godefroy, L’Héronde, Henri, and Les Fournelles, each is distinguished by its orientation or its position on the slope, and each brings its share of complexity to this wine.
The soils are dominated by the blue stone – Metadiorite (a metamorphic rock) which is more prominent and stonier for the highest plots and more clayey for those nearer the foot of the hill.
This is a beautiful garnet/blue hue with an exuberant nose of peony, cherry. Energetic acidity and a mineral streak balanced by ripe black fruit and exotic spice.
An exceptional wine which can age beautifully, should you have the patience!
“Bottled a mere week before I tasted it, Thivin’s 2019 Côte de Brouilly unwinds in the glass with inviting aromas of plums, red berries, warm spices and peonies. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, it’s bright and precise, with fine depth at the core and real energy, concluding with a long, gently tannic finish. A touch finer-boned and more dynamic than the gourmand, demonstrative 2018, this is showing very well.” 93+ pts
