Mazoyères-Chambertin 2018, Domaine Tawse
Region: Côte de Nuits, Burgundy
Grape/s: Pinot Noir
Production: Organic certified, biodynamic practising, hand harvested, natural yeasts, unfined & unfiltered.
Next to Charmes and below Latricières, Mazoyères is on gravel soils of 30 – 35cm deep directly on the rock. The Grisard Coomb is responsible for providing these elements and Mazoyères location on the edge of this combo, gives it a particular microclimate, distinguishing it very clearly from Charmes.
Mazoyères is rich and velvety, complex with firm tannins that melt with age. With time it gains in intensity and length.
This comes from two parcels of vines on the lower part of the Mazoyères vineyard, close to the border with Morey-Saint-Denis.
100% destemmed in 2018, with a short, cold maceration followed by very light push downs using feet and long pump-overs.
Èlevage was 18 months in oak barrels, 50% new.
“The 2018 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru is 100% de-stemmed and raised in one-third new oak. It has an expressive, very floral bouquet, with iris and violet aromas infusing the red cherry and strawberry fruit and gaining intensity with aeration. The elegant, harmonious palate is well balanced, precise and very persistent, a touch of spice lengthening the finish. Superb“. 95-96 pts
