Côte de Nuits Villages Viola Odorata 2017, Claire Naudin
Region: Côte de Nuits, Burgundy
Grape/s: Pinot Noir
Production: lutte raisonnée, hand-harvested, natural yeasts, low sulphur, unfined & unfiltered
Viola odorata (violet) was the favorite plot of Claire’s father and the vines here are between 55-115 years old,
located in Corgolin.
The grapes are vinified whole-cluster with no pump over and there is around 18-20 months of aging in 228 litre barrels This cuvée always needs time and the 2017 is drinking brilliantly now.
The nose is intensely aromatic with ripe cherry, mint, peony and spice notes. Wonderfully fresh and vibrant with beautiful balance, nuance and class. Sublime.
“There is a common hedonistic value to the sensual quality of the Viola Odorata and a maturing wine from Bizot. But in the case of Naudin, one can both find it and afford it!”
